    Prosperity Indiana is excited to announce that will be offering our Housing Navigation 101 Training this year!! Over the past few months, we have focused on updating the curriculum to best serve our participants needs, we are excited to offer this newer updated version to you moving forward.


    Overview of Training:

    Housing Navigation programs and services provide supportive services to individuals and families who are experiencing homeless, at risk of homelessness, or are struggling to locate an affordable unit in seek of help.

    The goal of PI's Housing Navigation training is to provide participants with the knowledge, resources, and tools to assist their clients with identifying, applying for, securing, and moving into a permanent housing unit. Housing navigators walk alongside families throughout this journey to housing stability.

    Housing Navigation 101 will increase your or your staff's understanding of how government-funded housing programs operate and expand participants' knowledge to direct clients to healthy housing.


    Audience:

    This training has been extremely impactful for many roles including but not limited to public health workers, case managers, life coaches, financial education roles, program managers, health navigators, local units of government, community action staff and many more

    The course has been vetted and delivered by subject matter experts in Fair Housing, Homelessness Assistance, Legal Aid, and Affordable Housing. Six trainings were conducted in 2025 to ensure that the curriculum effectively meets learners' needs and course goals. 


    Primary Learning Objectives:

    • Housing Program Types: Participants will have a general understanding of the common types of federal and state housing programs offered throughout Indiana.
    • Housing Program Eligibility: Participants will have a general understanding of the eligibility requirements for each housing program discussed including but not limited to: HCV, PB, and Affordable Housing Programs; like Section42 and USDAs Section515 Housing.
    • Fair Market Value: Participants will learn where and how to locate HUD’s Fair Market Values in addition to understanding how these values are used within housing programs.
    • Housing Ratios: Participants will demonstrate their understanding of HUD’s Housing Ratios through practice scenarios determining affordability.
    • Tenant Rights: Participants will learn where to find legal information and/or resources, basic logistics of a lease, and fair housing laws including how/where to file a housing compliant. 
    • Legal Aid: Participants will learn where to locate legal aid resources, tenant and landlord rights resources, including lease basics and whose responsibility is it to make necessary property repairs. 
    • Landlord Engagement: Participants will gain a general understanding of the importance of creating and leveraging relationships with landlords to increase housing stability for populations served. 
    • Resources: Participants learn the strategies to help clients remain successfully housed, including the importance of community-based partnerships and housing advocacy.


    Schedule:

    The Housing Navigation training consists of four (4) ninety-minute virtual sessions. For your reference, the schedule is as follows:

    1. March 3, 2026, 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM

    2. March 5, 20269:30 AM - 11:00 AM

    3. March 10, 20269:30 AM - 11:00 AM

    4. March 12, 20269:30 AM - 11:00 AM

    All live sessions will conclude with an activity to complete before the next live session. A pre/posttest will be provided to help PI continue to evaluate learning and knowledge gained from the training.

    PI's Housing Stability Program Manager

    Danielle Drew

    As the Housing Stability Program Manager, Danielle provides training, program development, evaluation, and capacity building strategies to amplify program delivery for Prosperity Indiana members. Previously in this role, she supported the Indiana Emergency Rental Assistance (IERA) Housing Stability Network through TA, training, and networking opportunities. Danielle develops engaging and effective curriculum for instructor-led training modules for the PI network.

    Danielle spent several years serving as the Family Development Coordinator and Housing Stability Coordinator at Interlocal Community Action Program (ICAP) in New Castle, Indiana. In that role she customized and implemented Financial Education, including overseeing the Individual Development Account (IDA) asset building program. Danielle also spent several years providing direct client services to families in many different capacities, which gives her a deep understanding of the skills, resources, and tools needed to best serve families in need.

    2026 Legislative Session Recap
